Saypad vs the dictation built into your Mac

Your Mac already has dictation, and for short, plain messages it's fine. Saypad is for people who dictate a lot – and are tired of fixing names, acronyms and missing punctuation.

The same sentence, two engines

We recorded one 7.6-second sentence full of work jargon and ran it through Apple's newest on-device speech engine and through Saypad.

Questions

Do I lose Apple's dictation shortcut?

Saypad uses the fn key, so you set macOS “Press 🌐 key to” to “Do Nothing”. Apple's dictation stays available from the Edit menu or a custom shortcut.

Is Saypad more private than Apple's dictation?

Both can run on your Mac. Saypad never sends audio anywhere, and keeps your recordings in a folder you control.

Which languages does Saypad support?

English and Russian are tested. Whisper recognizes many more languages, but we haven't verified them yet.
